The book tells the story of the peregrine falcon's dramatic recovery from endangered status over a 30-year period and includes lots of basic information about peregrine falcons.
The FalconQuest computer CD-ROM is a PDF file of inquiry-based science that will provide children with book and webquesting topics to learn about the fastest creature on earth. The CD is an environmental education curriculum, written by a teacher, tied to National Science Education Content Standards and National Educational Technology Standards (NETS).
Assignments send children on a treasure hunt for information in books and on the internet. They can work with a friend or parent or they can work alone. A feather is earned for each completed assignment, several feathers lead to award levels ("Egg", "Hatchling", "Chick", etc.). Children will learn about the peregrine falcon in depth, its escape from near extinction in the U.S. and they will find resources on the internet to actually watch nesting falcons raise their chicks live via "Falcon Cams" online. This isn't software, it's guided topics for children to begin their own search for information.
